From December 10 to 14, 2025, the Los Cabos International Film Festival (FICLosCabos) celebrates its 13th edition by deliberately broadening its scope, evolving the event into a dynamic cultural destination that engages every aspect of the arts. Operating under the narrative #BeyondTheScreen, the Festival maintains its core mission as a strategic bridge between the film industries of Mexico, the United States, and Canada, while integrating music, digital art, and gastronomy into a cohesive cultural ecosystem.
A Program Rooted in Place
The Festival utilizes the dramatic Baja California Sur landscape as an integral part of its creative campus. This approach invites audiences and industry professionals to inhabit the region’s unique geography—the convergence of desert and the Sea of Cortés—using emblematic spaces like the Marina at Puerto Los Cabos, Crania, and Hotel El Ganzo for open-air events, complemented by formal screenings at Cinemex complexes.
The 2025 program is set to feature more than 35 screenings and conversations, balancing high-profile international premieres with a commitment to national talent. This year’s cinematic offering includes major international works such as Claire Denis’s The Fence and Mark Jenkin’s atmospheric fable Rose of Neveda, alongside films in the competitive section like Clemente Castor’s Frío metal and Nuria Ibáñez’s El guardián. The atmosphere of the event will be guided by journalist and cultural critic Julio Patán as Host, and Mexican actor José María Yazpik will lead the official inauguration as Master of Ceremonies, anchoring the event in high-level critical dialogue and national artistic excellence.
The core cinematic offering is defined by several competitive and curated sections:
Pulso del Estero (Estuary Pulse): This central competitive section spotlights recent, independent Mexican feature films and documentaries. The selection includes critically noted works such as César Talamantes’s Isleño, the Mexico–Greece co-production MACDO by Racornelia, and Frío metal, showcasing the breadth of contemporary national narratives.
Emerging Voices: This dedicated short film program champions new talent, presenting six distinct perspectives expanding the limits of cinematographic language. Featured titles include Spiritum, Viaje de negocios by Gerardo Coello Escalante, and Marea by Ximena Lamadrid and Julian Lamadrid.
Masterclasses and Immersive Experiences
A headline moment of the 2025 edition is the tribute to Oscar winning production designer Eugenio Caballero, known for his iconic collaborations with filmmakers like Guillermo del Toro and Alfonso Cuarón. As part of this recognition, Caballero will offer an in-depth Masterclass on December 11, sharing his visual philosophy and creative process. The homage will culminate in a unique open-air projection at Crania, followed by a cocktail reception at Casa Ballena with music from the Ganzo Collective.
Beyond the tributes, the program features several key cinematic and performance events:
Special Screenings: The lineup includes the documentary Depeche Mode M, presented in collaboration with director Fernando Frías, and a projection of Ed Maverick: La nube en el jardín live from Sala Nezahualcóyotl. Furthermore, the documentary El Pulmo, which follows a fisherman’s fight for marine conservation in Cabo Pulmo, will be screened with the participation of Mark Kronemeyer and Begoña Félix, connecting the film program directly to local ecological concerns.
Cultural Fusion Events: The Festival will host a Live Cinema Performance by Personas Haciendo Cosas presented by Tania Reza, a Live Show by Shamans, and a session of performance poetry, all intended to fully immerse attendees in the cultural ecosystem of Los Cabos.
Industry and Community Engagement
The commitment to professional development remains strong through the Gabriel Figueroa Film Fund (GFFF). The GFFF, in partnership with the Escuela Superior de Cine (ESCINE), bolsters emerging filmmakers. After receiving a high volume of submissions, the selected GFFF projects, which include first features in development, will receive mentorships and strategic connections with international producers, distributors, and investors during the December industry sessions.
Additionally, the La Baja Inspira competitive section remains vital, showcasing films tied directly to the peninsula, which affirms the region as a sophisticated generator of creative output. This local focus is further reinforced by Miradas al Sur, a collective art exhibition at Puerto Los Cabos featuring original art from local artists interpreting the peninsula as a deeply connected land.
The integrated vision of FICLosCabos 2025 is realized through its network of strategic partners, including FITURCA, Questro, and Hotel El Ganzo. These alliances solidify the Festival’s role as a key cultural and economic engine for the region, offering a sophisticated convergence point where creativity, commerce, and the natural world intersect.
