Los Cabos is renowned for its natural beauty and appeal as a luxury destination. However, it is increasingly becoming more than just a vacation spot; it is transforming into a place to live, particularly in master-planned residential clubs that are evolving into full-time neighborhoods. Younger families are establishing roots alongside traditional second-home owners, attracted by a growing sense of community, enhanced amenities, and the opportunity for a more balanced lifestyle.

To understand what’s driving this shift, we sat down with Anthony Solier, a long-time Cabo resident and senior sales leader at Querencia, one of the region’s most established residential clubs. With nearly two decades in the area — and eight years at Querencia — Anthony has seen firsthand how Cabo is growing, how the market is maturing, and why places like Querencia are drawing a different kind of homeowner.

In this conversation with Destino Magazine, he talks about Querencia’s evolution, the importance of community, the addition of a second Fazio-designed golf course, and the new rhythms shaping life in Cabo.

Let’s start with the feeling people get when they experience Querencia. From your perspective, what makes someone connect with the community and decide this is where they want to be?

The main thing is the sense of community. That’s what stands out most when people experience Querencia. You see it especially with families who live here full-time. Many of them have children attending local schools, and that creates deeper roots. We also have a very active calendar of social events and activities, from golf and tennis to dinners and speaker series. Those things make a difference because they help people connect with each other. It’s a real neighborhood, not just a resort with houses.

Querencia recently started building a second Fazio-designed golf course and expanded its Beach Club. How have these additions changed the community, and who’s choosing to live here?

Both have been major turning points. Before, Querencia was seen primarily as a golf community for retirees. That changed with the Beach Club: it made Querencia a place where younger families could see themselves living, with surfing, ocean activities, and programs for kids. And now, the second golf course helps protect that relaxed, flexible lifestyle we’re known for. We didn’t want people having to fight for tee times. This second course maintains a smooth experience even as we grow, and it offers something more engaging for all levels. Together, these changes paved the way for a more balanced and family-oriented community.

You’ve been in Cabo for nearly twenty years. What’s been the most significant shift in how people experience life here, both in Querencia and more broadly?

Cabo has evolved from being primarily a tourist and retirement destination to a year-round destination for families and younger professionals. That’s a significant change. Ten or fifteen years ago, it was much harder to live here full-time. There were fewer schools, fewer services, fewer activities for kids. That’s changed dramatically. Now, people come here to build a life, not just to vacation. Querencia reflects that. It’s no longer unusual to see younger families living here, with careers still in progress, raising their children, and establishing roots. Cabo has become more complete: it’s no longer just a getaway.

Has that changed what buyers look for when choosing a community like Querencia?

Definitely. People are thinking about lifestyle first. They want safety, good schools, well-designed homes, and a place where it’s easy to connect with others. They ask about activities for kids, community events, and how easy it is to make friends. They also expect solid management and high-quality services. That’s something we take seriously. Querencia offers more than just beautiful properties; it’s a lifestyle that feels welcoming and easy to settle into.

What’s a typical week like in Querencia? What are some of the low-key highlights people enjoy?

There’s a good rhythm here. Beyond golf and tennis, there are also opportunities for surfing, yoga, hiking, and a popular speaker series that features authors and unique guests. We have mixers, family events, and even Yappy Hour at the dog park, which is surprisingly social. People here aren’t looking for constant spectacle. They want relaxed, meaningful ways to connect with others, and that’s what Querencia is built around.

For someone curious about Querencia, what kinds of homes or options would they find?

There’s a good mix. Some people want to build their own home on a custom lot, while others go for move-in-ready homes or pre-construction options. Condominiums are also available for those who prefer a turnkey option. Different areas of the community have different feels, some closer to the clubhouse, some more private, some with ocean views. It depends on what you value most.

Looking ahead, do you think Cabo will keep attracting more year-round residents?

Absolutely. Every year, Cabo becomes more livable. There are more schools, services, and activities available for families. The convenience to the U.S. is a big factor, especially for people who travel often or work remotely. Cabo isn’t just a vacation destination anymore, and communities like Querencia are specifically designed for people who want to live here full-time without sacrificing comfort or community.
