On Saturday, January 31, 2026, Padrino Foundation will mark the start of construction on a new pediatric clinic in Todos Santos. The ceremony reflects a practical shift for an organization that has spent years responding to unmet medical needs across Baja California Sur, often with limited physical resources.

Padrino’s work has focused on children with complex and frequently undiagnosed conditions who face structural barriers to care. Many families arrive without prior access to specialists, formal diagnoses, or continuity of treatment. In response, the foundation developed a multidisciplinary model that brings together pediatrics, psychiatry, genetics, neurology, endocrinology, therapeutic services, and social support within a single framework. For many patients, this has been their first sustained point of medical contact.

A central component of this effort has been the foundation’s pediatric genetics clinic, one of only a few operating in Mexico. The program provides advanced diagnostic services that are rarely accessible outside major urban centers and is open to any child in Baja California Sur with a critical, unresolved health condition. This work has taken place in a small rented clinic in Todos Santos, a space that no longer aligns with the volume or complexity of cases being seen.

“The need has outpaced the capacity of our current facility,” said Mitzy Cervantes, Executive and Medical Director of Padrino. “This new clinic is a response to that reality and to the families who have been waiting for care.”

The new facility has been designed to support coordinated medical work across specialties, allowing for closer collaboration and more efficient care delivery. A capital campaign to fund construction is nearing completion, with more than US$1.2 million raised. The level of support reflects long-term trust in the organization’s model rather than a single moment of visibility.

Padrino also emphasizes the wider effects of access to pediatric care. When children receive treatment, parents are often able to return to work, household stability improves, and families can redirect energy toward education and long-term planning. These changes extend beyond individual households and shape how communities function day to day.
