APRIL 1 – 12th ANNUAL PAWS N’CLAWS GOLF TOURNAMENT The Los Cabos Humane Society presents their 12th Annual Paw N’ Claws Golf Tournament & Dinner fundraising event to help continue to provide for the growing Los Cabos pet population. The event was first created a decade ago to assist the tireless work their staff was doing in the Los Cabos pet community because there is no governmental agency to address the problems associated with homeless domestic animals living on the streets. The Los Cabos Humane Society operates as a non-profit organization which exists as the only form of animal protection and control in the Southern Baja California Region for the tourist-popular cities of Cabo San Lucas and San Jose del Cabo. The LCHS Center only has a few paid staff members. The rest of the agency’s work (pet adoption, neutering) is accomplished by hard-working volunteers from both communities. The 18-hole open golf tournament will once again take place at Palmilla Golf Course followed by dinner at Acre Restaurant in San Jose del Cabo at La Playita Beach. 7-8 Rancho Pescadero Culinary Weekend

The cozy beachfront boutique hotel, Rancho Pescadero Resort, which is located on the Pacific Coast 20 minutes south of Todos Santos is hosting their spring season’s Culinary Weekend event that has been reported by renowned Los Cabos local expert, Chris Sands, ”Rancho Pescadero is a simple yet elegant resort that has been rated as one of Mexico’s best properties, and is home to 29 suites, a garden restaurant, a spa specializing in local and indigenous ingredients, and a 2,000 square foot yoga pavilion.” Rancho Pescadero’s most acclaimed attractions, however, may very well be the chefs who appear at the four-day, three-night culinary weekends offered regularly from November through May. Guests at these seasonal gastronomic gatherings are treated to an array of palate pleasing options – from brunches and tastings to cooking classes and artfully paired dinners from visiting and in-house chefs – and also enjoy easy access to activities like hiking, biking, fishing, surfing, and romantic beachfront horseback rides in one of the world’s most beautiful locales. As an added bonus, the resort is only 45 minutes by car from Cabo San Lucas. The April 8-9 weekend features, Alex Seidel, chef and owner at Fruition (opened in 2007) and Mercantile (opened in 2014) in Denver was named Best New Chef in Food & Wine Magazine’s 2010 issue. “When not cooking at Fruition, Seidel is at his farm tending or milking some 60 sheep and homemade cheese, Seidel raises a heritage pork breed called “Large Black” and has planted his 10-acre farm with fruits and vegetables to supply the restaurant kitchens.” The two-day event costs $250 per person plus tax and includes the tasty food and beverage offerings, as well as a Rancho Pescadero apron. 9 The Don Diablo Trail Run

The Inaugural Don Diablo Trail Run is a highly demanding 35-kilometer (21.75-mile) trail run, which crosses the Sierra Cacachilas mountain range in La Paz, Baja California Sur. Starting from the outskirts of La Paz (Cajoncito) and finishing in El Sargento on La Ventana Bay, the course traverses many deep canyons and climbs three mountain passes with a total elevation change of 1,409 meters. The race scenery is stunningly beautiful, with large white granite boulders and a hidden oasis with water holes and tall native palm trees. As the race reaches the highest mountain pass of Portesuelo de Caballos, a spectacular view opens to the Sea of Cortez and the Isla Cerralvo (Jacques Cousteau Island). This view accompanies the runners, on and off, for the last 20 kilometers of the race. Contestants will cross the finish line at the Agua Caliente Beach on the Sea of Cortez on the northern side of El Sargento. This first edition of the Don Diablo Trail Run will also feature a shorter 21-kilometer race with an elevation gain of 1,109 meters. It will have the same starting point as the 35-kilometer race but it will finish at Los Pisos, a campsite in the middle of the Sierra Cacachilas. Runners will be transported by shuttle from Los Pisos to the main finish line on the Agua Caliente Beach in El Sargento. There is a $40-$45 dollar entry fee and prize money of $15,000 Mexican pesos ($750 US Dollars) for the overall first place men and women, and $5,000 pesos ($250 USD) for age group category winners from 18-39 all the way up to 60-years plus. The Don Diablo Trail Run follows the steps of Don Victor, known locally as Don Diablo, due to his wily escape from the La Paz jail many years ago when he fled into the Cacachilas Mountains. 9-16 Holy Week and Easter ”Semana Santa”

While Holy week ends the 40-day Lent period, the historic Catholic week includes Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. As many are aware, Holy Week is the annual Christian observance commemorating Jesus’ last few days on earth and include the tragic events leading up to his miracle resurrection on Easter Sunday. Holy Week includes the final days of Lent, and the week prior to Easter Sunday. The dates of Holy Week are defined by the date of Easter Sunday, which is a much celebrated feast, which falls on different dates of April from year to year. Holy Week begins on Palm Sunday and ends on Holy Saturday. Holy Week does not include Easter Sunday. Easter Sunday, the first day of Easter Week, immediately follows Holy Week and in Eastern Orthodox Christianity, Holy Week starts on Lazarus Saturday, the day before Palm Sunday. The Holy Week festivities in Los Cabos feature a colorful parade in San Jose del Cabo’s downtown Central Plaza and Ameila Wilkes Plaza in Cabo San Lucas, where locals crush eggs filled with paper confetti and also participate in an American-style Easter egg hunt for children.

30 DÍa del Niño

While not a national holiday in Mexico, El Día del Niño or Children’s Day, is always a day filled with kid’s activities and special events. Many schools celebrate the day and parents are invited. There are no classes or school on El Día del Niño celebrated on April 30. In Cabo San Lucas, parents will generally take their kid’s to Medano Beach, while San Jose del Cabo holds a small parade and children’s activities at the main plaza in front of the historic Catholic Church downtown. Children’s Day has been celebrated annually in Mexico since 1925. Children in Mexico are recognized as an important part of society so the day focuses on the importance of loving, accepting and appreciating the young children of every community, city and state within the Republic of Mexico.]]>
